However, we also understand that some patients visiting us may suffer from anxiety in relation to visiting the dentist. Some patients may be comfortable with minor examinations and procedures being completed without any additional help needed. However, in cases where the treatment may be invasive and therefore cause more anxiety than usual, we offer an IV (intravenous) sedation.
If you suffer from dental anxiety, IV sedation will help you receive your treatment with a relaxed feeling, while you remain awake.
If you are anxious or wish to have a more relaxed dental experience during an invasive treatment, you can choose to have IV sedation at Kent Smile Studio. Our dental professional will place a small needle in the back of your hand to administer a mild sedative into the bloodstream. It will immediately allow you to feel more comfortable and relaxed.
If you have any questions or concerns, these will be addressed before and during the treatment.
With IV sedation, you will be fully conscious during the procedure yet feel relaxed. It is important to note that you will remain fully awake so that you can understand and communicate with us throughout the procedure. It may also be the case that the treatment seems quicker than it is because of the relaxed state.
To ensure our patients are always safe when having a sedative, we must ask you to have someone waiting for you after the procedure to drive you home safely. Although the effects of sedation are not long-lasting, they can still make you feel slightly disorientated after the procedure, which means it is not safe to drive.
