Crowns

Crowns are a conventional treatment at our Maidstone and Chatham clinics, providing a durable tooth repair solution for our patients.

A crown, which is also known as a cap, is placed over a tooth to make it stronger, restore its shape, maintain the size and make it look better. This restorative solution is also a suitable way to fix implants and is often combined with fillings and bridges.

Why would a dental crown need to be used?

There are a wide variety of reasons a dental crown would need to be used including, but not limited to:

Providing protection for a tooth that has been weakened through injury or tooth decay.
To strengthen and hold together the remnants of a cracked tooth.
To provide extra strength to a tooth containing a large filling when necessary.
To anchor a dental bridge.
To improve the aesthetics of a tooth that is discoloured or misshapen.
As part of a root canal treatment.
As part of a dental implant treatment.

What are dental crowns made from?

With dental technology advancing at great speed over recent years, there is now a wide variety of materials which can be used to manufacture dental crowns. Each differs in its respective advantages.

100% Porcelain, Metal Free Crowns
100% porcelain crowns are natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing. Whereas metal bonded crowns can reveal a darkened gum line, 100% porcelain crowns retain their natural colour. They are created to match the shade of your current teeth, so not only are they suitable for people with metal allergies, but they look natural too.
Gold Crowns
Gold crowns offer an attractive alternative to a natural-looking tooth. They are the strongest type of crown and resist chipping and wear extremely well. Gold crowns can also be fitted with a high level of precision as gold is easy to work with.
Porcelain Crowns Bonded to Metal
The porcelain casing can be bonded to metal to provide it with extra strength. It can also be matched to your natural tooth colour and look aesthetically pleasing. However, a darkened gum line will still appear where the tooth meets the gum, making them slightly less natural-looking than 100% porcelain crowns.

I initially chose to go to Kent Smile Studio as it looked like it could help me with some long standing dental issues that has not been resolved elsewhere, I explained my issues over the phone, and an appointment with Dr Stakenaite was made.Dr Stakenaite has been brilliant, she listens, explains and cares, she is also a very good cosmetic dentist and meticulous in her work.All the staff I have met so far, from the receptionists to Dr Stakenaite’s assistants have been really nice, friendly and helpful.Phoning up Kent smile studio and booking a appointment has definitely been one of my better decisions this year

I honestly could not recommend the Kent smile studio any more. As someone who avoided the dentist, I suffered for months because of past experiences and terrible anxiety, I am now the opposite! P Vadera has changed my experience all together and I look forward to going back! He took me through every single step, took everything at my pace, even held my hand with the hygienist after I got a bit emotional, never known a dentist like it and honestly anyone that suffers with anxiety, go to the Kent Smile Studio! Z Jiwan, my hygienist is exactly the same, calms you straight away, understands your concerns and talks you through it & takes it at your pace! Everyone was so supportive and patient including the dental nurses and reception. Never thought id see the day I was pain free and not terrified to go back! I had my first appointment with Louise Yates at Kent Smile this week. I felt welcome from the moment I stepped into the centre and greeted by the reception team. Louise took her time to listen to everything and make sure she had all the information, as I have a complex dental case. She then proceeded to carryout the most thorough dental exam I have ever had which included xrays. Louise and her dental nurse are absolutely lovely, they answered all my questions and I left feeling knowledgeable and confident about my treatment plan going forward. I have been a patient at Kent Smile Studio for a few years, and have had treatment including an implant, and more recently Invisalign treatment to improve the alignment of my upper and lower front teeth which included 4 new veneers. I am very satisfied with all of the treatment I have had and those who have treated me. So much so that myself (and my husband) have chosen to remain with the practice despite moving over 300 miles to the North of England. This is a really professional and friendly practice. The care is amazing. Everything is discussed and explained in full. Costings are provided and are clear and adhered to. I really recommend Kent Smile Studio.I have been going to for around 3 years now and recently had an implant at the front.
